Just a Saturday in the Desert

I talked my friend Tracy into running around the neighborhood with me this morning.  It was a humid 95.  I have to admit, it was hot.  I finally took her home after she said she wanted to throw up!

Here’s a picture of my son from a few months ago.  I’ve been wanting to make a portrait of him but he’s 9 going on 15.  It’s a rare day that he’ll let me take his photo.  I got 2 frames out of him this particular day before he decided that he was done.  He’s holding our chicken, Helen.  She lays blue eggs.

My Mac has been doodled on!

The Crime…….

The Suspect…….

A

Although all evidence is circumstantial, the suspect was found with an un-capped Sharpie in left hand and incriminating black Sharpie doodles on arms and legs.  Don’t be fooled by the suspects’ cuteness.  She has a rap sheet as long as her right arm.  Convicted of coloring on objects other than paper countless of times.  Most recently, the TV, the kitchen table and her brother’s homework.  Graffiti was recently found on the hall linen cabinet.  Albeit colorful, but none the less, not paper!

Tenille & Kalati

I photographed my first “Destination Wedding”  last Friday!  Well, technically all the weddings that I photograph are “Destination Weddings” since they’re not in my front yard.  I should say that it was my first wedding outside of California.  Tenille and Kalati had their ceremony at Parker Dam in AZ.   Since Tenille is a friend of a friend, she invited my whole family to come along.  That was so nice!  We drove from our desert home to another desert.  You know, there’s a lot of desert out there.  It just went on and on and on.

I was so impressed to hear that Tenille made all the floral arrangements, decorated the entire reception area, made all of the menu/event brochures while working and taking care of her family.  I told this to my husband while wondering why I can’t seem to find enough time to run my business and take care of my 2 year old during the day (my son is in school most of the day).  Well, maybe some things are meant to stay a mystery.

You can see the slide show here.

Here’s the island where Tenille and Kalati had their ceremony.  I actually took this image the next morning with that delicious morning light.

This is actually one of my favorite images.  It’s hard to explain.  I love the desert.  It was hot and Tenille’s veil was blowing.  If I had a larger vocabulary, I’d be able to tell you exactly why I like it.  I guess it was one of those quiet moments between moments.

I love this picture (above).  Sometimes the simple images are the most interesting.  It’s all about Tenille, not the background or the flowers, just Tenille.

Is this hillarious?

This last photo was a my attempt to do a painting with light portrait with A LOT of people.  I think it came out pretty good except that I was so focused on lighting everyone within the 30 second exposure that I forgot to make sure that you could see Tenille and Kalati.  They’re back there somewhere!

Sean & Heather

It’s always hard for me to start a post.  Especially the first few sentences.  I’m just not a great writer.  My fingers get a wee bit sweaty.  I start and then stop, delete, then write the same thing again, delete, sit back in my chair and wait for some inspiration, then power on.  It’s  always been a bit perplexing for me to try to sum up weddings.  Sean and Heather’s is no exception.  I can say it was joyous, fun, clever, sincere, thoughtful, personal, and intimate.  They had good friends, vegan food and Lego’s!  I had 18 photos picked out to put on my blog!  Way too many.

See the slide show here.
