Erin and Jordan’s wedding was so wonderful! I rushed to get all of the images ready so that Erin and Jordan could see them before they left for Africa. There’s no high speed internet where they’re going!

I really enjoy when my clients want to do a shoot around our town. It’s not your typical green, shady awe inspiring landscape type of terrain. After 13 years of being in the desert I’ve come to find a quiet beauty about it. It’s subtle but it’s there, you just have to look. Josh and Breanne were wonderfully open to where ever I took them. Of course they were held captive since I was driving!

Barstow Basketball Player Jeff Legree

This was my second trip to Barstow in the last 2 months for a portrait of a basketball player. It was nice to be remembered by Coach Howard. He let me into the men’s locker room to take this portrait of Jeff. Not only does Jeff play on the Barstow College Basketball team but also carries 20 units in school, is in the military and is the father of two young boys. I’m surprised he had time for this portrait.

Growcology in Riverside

I have to say that a wonderful perk of freelancing for the Sun Newspaper and it’s magazines is discovering wonderful organizations such as Grocology. Growcology is a non-profit sustainable education facility smack in the middle of Riverside. Nick and Bianca Heyming founded the organization and with the help of their family, offer workshops in gardening, sustainability and homesteading. I love, love, love this kind of stuff. I just started working on a living roof for my chicken coop which is along the lines of what Growcology is all about.

Barstow Community College Basketball

I was very excited when I read the assignment notes for this story. The writer suggested that a photo of a few of the players in the desert would illustrate the story about Coach Howard. Well, I was all over that idea. After moving here from northern California thirteen years ago, you couldn’t get me to say a nice thing about the desert. Now, I can’t get enough of it.

I also got to use my 20 something year old lighting equipment that I bought for $130. Such a great deal and it worked beautifully!

WWII Veteran in Highland

Last Thursday, I knocked on Bob and Donnis’s door in a mobile home park in Highland for an assignment for the San Bernardino Sun newspaper. Bob was a WWII, Korea and Vietnam veteran. The Mason’s sent him to Washington D.C. to tour veteran memorials a few weekends ago. That’s why I was there. When I stepped inside their home, it reminded me of my husband’s grandparents mobile home. I think they even had the same couch as Eric’s grandparents. Seriously! Anyway, Bob invited me in as Donnis, his newlywed wife, was finishing up in her room. Bob, who is 93 btw, asked me what I wanted him to do. I asked if he had any WWII memorabilia or anything that would help give some context to the photo. He mentioned that he had his uniform AND that he still fit into it after all of these years (with some small adjustments made by Donnis). Perfect!

We stepped outside to take a few portraits.

Bob really wanted me to take his photo with the shirt that the Mason’s gave him on his trip. He was so impressed with the generosity of the Masons. He said that on the trip, he didn’t want for a thing. The Mason’s were right there to attend to their every need including pushing the wheelchairs of other vets who couldn’t walk. The Mason’s ended up sending over 600 veterans to Washington D.C.

It’s pretty amazing that Gov. Schwarzenegger came to my home town of Adelanto. He was here for a ground breaking ceremony for an expansion of one of the detention centers here in town. The San Bernardino Sun newspaper sent me out to cover the event.
